2nd Annual Open House
a HUGE Success!

Thanks to everyone for making our 2nd Annual Open House and Seminar such a success! The turn-out was even stronger than last year, with over 50 guests representing dozens of companies. We were treated to an incredible amount of valuable information on reducing the risk of injuries in the workplace.

If you were fortunate enough to make this year’s event, you already know what a great time we all had, and how much wonderful information was presented. If you missed it, don’t panic! We were able to put aside a small stack of the hand-outs and goodies that were given to attendees, and can send you a copy upon your request.

We would like to take a moment to offer heartfelt thanks to the following folks for their contribution to our event:

Stephen Campbell, PT, CHSP, CAE, National Director of Industrial Relations for Matrix Rehabilitation for his presentation on the "Worksteps" comprehensive pre-placement screening.

Jim Klein, Loss Prevention Specialist for Pinnacol Assurance for presenting his "Six Step Approach to Cost Containment", an OSHA approved safety program designed to minimize workers’ compensation losses and reduce insurance premiums.

Tony Baker, Relationship Manager for Aviation & Occupational Medicine for his "Workers’ Compensation Safety Net", outlining the ten key elements of an effective workers’ compensation program for reducing the frequency and financial impact of injuries in the workplace.

Additionally, the following industry professionals were on hand to answer questions and offer suggestions to many of our guests:

Connie Kakkar – Occupational Health St. Joseph Hospital

Lindsay Schruth – Sales Representative for Xpect First Aid

Michael Stephens Drug Testing Services, Inc.

John Hodge – Drug Testing Services, Inc.

Franklin Shih, D.O. – Rehab Associates of Colorado

Kris Mason, M.D. – Rehab Associates of Colorado

A big thanks to you all for taking part in this event! We are fortunate to have such a wonderful team of experts to work with on a regular basis.

Work Comp Safety Net

This is one of the exercises we did at the safety seminar last month. The goal of this exercise is to keep injuries in the workplace from affecting your bottom line by catching employees (trapeze artists) in your safety net. Darken in the lines for programs and procedures you already have in place. For example, if you have a designated medical provider draw in the vertical line adjacent to that heading, and so on. Resulting open areas represent gaps in your safety net and potential risks for workers’ compensation injuries.

If you are experiencing frequent or avoidable injuries in the workplace, chances are you are missing one or more key components from your safety net. If you already have all ten components in place, good for you! You are in the top 10% of all companies in Colorado. Focus on thickening and strengthening your net by constantly reinforcing and reviewing your programs and procedures.

To learn more about building a comprehensive safety net for your company, call Tony Baker and he will help you set it up. You can reach him on his direct line at (720) 941-5016.☻
